Our Purpose

A-100-year vision to deliver a long-term conservation plan supported by a sustainable business model for the purpose of the management and protection of Karingani’s at-risk environment for the benefit of future generations.

Our Vision

At Karingani, we have an integrated and enduring vision of becoming a world-leader in sustainable conservation and nature-based tourism. Our goal is to restore, enhance and maintain the natural ecological processes and biodiversity of Karingani through an effective and sustainable partnership between the Mozambican Government, private investors and participating communities.

We strive to promote diversity, equity and inclusion at Karingani.

Our Mission

The way we are going to achieve our purpose – is to utilise, exemplify and demonstrate the viability of world-leading investor-funded sustainable conservation practices in order to re establish and preserve the presence of wilderness and wildlife, alongside thriving and like-minded communities in this vast, strategically important habitat, which, without careful, long term responsible stewardship, faces the stark risk of being lost forever.

Our Values

Our values are embodied in the ethical business practices and ideals that we have established to describe what we stand for and govern the way we behave.

Our Business Model

Karingani is a for-profit enterprise that has vertically integrated operations that range from in-country overall landscape stewardship to on-the-ground reserve operations, including anti-poaching units, community relationship management, construction, legal, logistics, procurement, and administrative and HR support services.

Delivering best-in-class environment for conservation, protected land management, and for conservation-based tourism investment.

Access to an Emerging Market

Access to an Emerging Market

International flight connections to Mozambique are currently in place from Europe and from the Middle East, with regional airlift from South Africa, Rwanda, and Ethiopia.

Karingani has recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the National Administration for Conservation Areas (ANAC) in order to develop and upgrade an adjacent airfield for international arrivals and is 5 hours by car from Maputo.

Karingani has access to a Southern African private charter aviation network.

Unlocking Mozambique’s Biodiversity and Tourism Potential

Mozambique is a coastal nation in southeastern Africa, covering an area of approximately 801,590 km² and home to over 33 million people (2024 estimate). With over 2,500 km of Indian Ocean coastline and vast terrestrial and marine ecosystems, the country holds exceptional biodiversity. This natural wealth offers significant potential for conservation-focused and sustainable tourism investment.

The tourism industry, in particular, remains underdeveloped relative to its potential, offering a rare opportunity for responsible investment in high-growth areas such as coastal and marine tourism, cultural heritage, ecotourism, and community-based initiatives.

With ongoing improvements in infrastructure, increasing air connectivity, the introduction of e-visa at entry point, and a young and dynamic population, the country presents a compelling case for nature-based tourism investment. In line with national development strategies, tourism is viewed as a priority sector for economic diversification, employment generation, and rural development.

A Model for Sustainable Conservation and Eco-tourism

Created 12 years ago Karingani Game Reserve is a 147,000 ha privately controlled reserve located in southwestern Mozambique at the junction of the Kruger National Park in South Africa and the Limpopo National Park in Mozambique, forming part of the Greater Limpopo Transfrontier Conservation Area (GLTFCA). The GLTFCA is a well-recognised and ambitious strategy to integrate existing Mozambique, South African, and Zimbabwean national parks with private game reserves into an aligned conservation management zone where animals are free to traverse across vast protected areas.

Karingani enjoys a significant and notable diversity of habitat landscape and wildlife species, ideal for a nature-based forum initiative.

Karingani forms a part of a Mozambican tourism circuit aligned with Pomene Marine Reserve, a PPP with two of the founding partners of Karingani and ANAC, Mozambique’s wildlife management agency.

The Founders Commitment

Karinganis land assemblage has been two decades in the making and is the result of a group of forward-thinking US and European-based families supported by local Mozambican partners. Karingani is a for-profit and impact investment deriving operating revenues from a combination of tourism, philanthropy and grant-funded conservation and community initiatives, focused on delivering long-term economic stability for the reserve.

Sustainable Management Practices

Currently Karingani employs over 350 people located at the reserve and in Maputo.

On the ground, operational anti-poaching, community relations, conservation, science, and infrastructure development teams operate with administration, HR, and legal support located in Maputo.

Karingani produces annual Natural and Social Capital reports on the reserve’s performance utilising metrics for Biodiversity, Community and Physical Development.

Branding and sustainable development guidelines are available and are a requirement in order to operate within the reserve.

The Karingani Constitution

The Karingani Constitution is a series of operating standards that third-party operators and investors will be expected to comply with to protect the future of conservation and land stewardship programmes over the long term.
