Conservation and Restoration
Land stewardship
Our goal is to quantify and restore the functional and visual integrity of the Karingani landscape. Our intention towards the restoration of the ecological and spatial connectivity within Karingani is focused on the contribution to the larger regional conservation landscape, balancing the overall ecosystem.
Biodiversity
Karingani plays a key role in restoring ecological integrity across a strategically important part of the Greater Limpopo Transfrontier Conservation Area. Through targeted habitat recovery, vegetation monitoring, and the removal of past human impacts, the reserve is working to re-establish resilient natural systems.
Restoration efforts are guided by structured data collection and clear ecological indicators, with a long-term aim of allowing natural processes to resume, ensuring the promotion of biodiversity in plant and animal communities across the landscape.
Wildlife
Wildlife restoration is central to Karingani’s mission, with a particular focus on re-establishing viable large mammal populations and maintaining natural gene flow across the reserve. All wildlife interventions and holistic management are guided by the overarching Conservation Development and Management Plan (CDMP), which outlines species priorities, restoration goals, and ecosystem targets.
Through systematic surveys, camera traps, and GPS-collared animals, Karingani monitors trends in species density, distribution, and recovery. Territorial integrity, secured through active boundary maintenance and anti-poaching efforts, ensures wildlife is protected and able to thrive within a functioning ecosystem.
