Aman Arrives at Karingani
Aman, the global hospitality and lifestyle brand, is making its debut in Mozambique with two resorts: one at Karingani Game Reserve and one in the proposed Pomene Reserve. The resorts come through a partnership with Impact Preservation Partners and are set to redefine high-end tourism in Mozambique and establish the country as a luxury tourism destination.
Two resorts, two landscapes
- Karingani Game Reserve: 150,000 hectares sharing an 84-kilometre border with Kruger National Park, with an ecosystem that rivals Africa’s best-known safari destinations.
- Proposed Pomene Reserve: a public-private partnership under a co-management agreement with ANAC, covering 695,000 hectares of marine and land environment. Its 97,000 hectares of land include coastal wetlands, indigenous forests, mangroves and estuary habitats.
- Aman in Africa: Karingani will be Aman’s second location in Africa, after Amanjena in Marrakech, Morocco.
Jobs and community benefits
The resorts are expected to create more than 600 direct jobs and 4,800 indirect jobs, with a substantial impact on the local and national economy. The project’s effect has already begun: 46 members of Karingani’s local communities are being trained at the South African College for Tourism, and surrounding communities are already benefiting from new infrastructure.
Karingani’s work in environmental rehabilitation, wildlife conservation and community infrastructure has already led to the employment of more than 350 local people and brought water, energy, telecommunications and transport to the area. That record laid the foundation for Impact Preservation Partners and Aman to extend nature-based tourism to Pomene.
Government support
The wider investment plan was made possible by the support of the Mozambican Government, which has promoted policies for environmental protection and wildlife conservation, making these areas destinations for low-density, high-value nature-based tourism. Further details on the resorts will be released in due course.
